This is the worst.
The building that houses Open Space in Baltimore MD is currently on fire. the back portion of the building, which contained my screen-printing equipment, Weekend’s gear, Witch Hat’s gear, Raindeer’s gear, and several other bands equipment has already burned and collapsed to the ground. I learned more from reading this article than I did from any police on the scene. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/north-baltimore/bs-md-ci-fire-sisson-street-20130501,0,6609175.story
2013 is now officially the worst year ever. I thought it had a chance of looking up after the colossal turd that was the first few months but this just took a biiiiiiiig shit on all my hopes for the year.
Keeping all the Open Space people, Open Space affiliates, and community in my thoughts today. On Monday I was giving a talk to students about artist run collectives, and the majority of my anecdotes and sources were about/from Open Space. At the end of the day I felt so uplifted remembering the accomplishments of my friends, how creative, funny, and proactive they/you all are. I’ll be keeping feelers out about any benefits, fundraisers etc and send them along. Special concern for Weekends/Witch Hat, Max and all of the effort he has put into “Solitary Stones on a Rocky Shore”, and JC the cat who is the sweetest. Sending all my love and good vibes to you to rise above what have been some very tough months.
Sad sad news. Open Space is a place where artists I love and care about have lived and work. Thankfully everyone who lives in the place is OK and it seems like the community of Baltimore is really reaching out.
Open Space just hosted a show I curated, Check Marks, which was still on the walls when the fire broke out. I’ve been told that the work was undamaged and is being retrieved now. A small bright spot on a very sad situation.
Very sad news.
oh man. very sorry to hear this
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE LOVE AND HELP EVERYONE! EVERYTHING IMPORTANT SURVIVED!

My first vine! And I finally got the booklet maker working. I feel like 80% of Issue Press is coaxing older equipment into working properly.
